To save credentials for the first signon (the Client Access signon), use the "Sign-on information" section on the Connections tab of the system's Properties window from iSeries Navigator. It is possible to save credentials for the first signon, so many shops would consider using *VERIFY a security exposure, since someone could walk up to an unlocked PC and gain access without being required to enter a password. If you tick this box, the credentials used for the first signon are used for the all of your interactive sessions to that same system. If the system value QRMTSIGN is set to *VERIFY, you can bypass the second signon by ticking the "Bypass signon" box when configuring Client Access sessions. For example, I might use one profile for Operations Navigator connections to my system, a development user profile for one TN5250 session, and a test user profile for another TN5250 session. The second signon is to authenticate your interactive workstation session, since there is no guarantee that the two sets of credentials are the same (they are in most shops as a matter of convention, though). The first time you use a Client Access utility (file transfer, Ops navigator, Workstation session, printer session, ets) you are prompted for Client Access credentials. The first signon is to allow you to establish a Client Access connection to the AS400. Telnet 5250 (TN5250) 'IBM 5250 was originally a family of terminal devices sold with the IBM System/3, System/32 and System/34 minicomputer systems.
